We are looking for an experienced Animation Technical Director responsible for overseeing the animation production pipeline and set best practices. You will collaborate with other technical leads to provide insight on tools and define strategies needed to achieve the project’s goals. Eager to learn and innovate, the Animation Technical Director will work with other core team members to develop the overall vision & determine technical feasibility.

Reporting

The Animation Technical Director will report to the Production Director.

Responsibilities and Duties

You will work with the other directors and discipline leads to establish a technical strategy to address gameplay needs.
Anticipate technological advancements, guide and participate in the development of the animation tools and pipelines.
Support animators, game designers, and riggers with their technical needs.
Review game design concepts and identify and analyze risks and dependencies.
Resolve and escalate complex issues & perform technical validations.
Collaborate with the Character Technical Director for character creation, rigging and their integration in the game.

Skills required

Experience shipping at least one AAA game from start to finish in an equivalent role.
Extensive experience in animation, rigging, or programming experience (or related experience) .
Working knowledge of hardware platform limitations.
Knowledge and practical experience in building animation trees.
Strong knowledge of DCC tools such as MotionBuilder, Blender, Maya, etc
Experience with motion capture, motion capture direction, and motion retargeting.
Experience with runtime animation systems, concepts and constraints.
A highly innovative, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with Unreal.
Knowledge of multiplayer game constraints.
